K9 Flu Update

Many of our clients have called recently with questions regarding the Canine Influenza(Dog flu) outbreak in Chicago. At this time, Horsham Veterinary Hospital does not require the canine influenza vaccine for boarding or grooming. We do have the vaccine available in our hospital for owners who request their dogs be immunized.
It is important to note that the vaccine currently available offers protection against the H3N8 strain of canine influenza and the current epidemic is caused by the H3N2 strain of canine influenza.  It is unknown at this time if the current vaccine will provide any protection from this new virus.
Our veterinarians will be monitoring the epidemic in Chicago closely and providing updates to our clients as they become available.
