Ultrasound &       Endoscopy

Diagnostic Ultrasound uses sonar (sound waves) to produce an image on a monitor. Ultrasound is used to image soft tissue structures and organs, and is completely non-invasive to your pet. With this dynamic technology, our veterinarians will be able to visualize kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands, gall bladder, pregnancies, bladder, cysts, and tumors. Ultrasound will help bridge the gap between our clinical findings, blood work, and radiographs to benefit you and your pet.

Some instances where Diagnostic Ultrasound can benefit your pet:

Coughing
Congestion
Heart murmurs
Chronic vomiting
Chronic diarrhea
Extreme weight loss
Recurring urinary tract infections
Painful abdomen
Trauma

HVH also enlists the services of a board certified radiologist for some cases.

Other Info

Endoscopy is performed using a fiberoptic flexible scope which allows us to examine inside organs such as the stomach and intestines. The image is projected onto a tv monitor so that several doctors can observe and confer while the procedure is being performed.

Gastrointestinal endoscopy is indicated when animals have chronic regurgitation, vomiting, or diarrhea. It is also performed when owners observe them eating foreign material or if a foreign body is observed on radiographs.

With this scope, we can obtain, relatively non-invasively, samples of various tissues for biopsy. We can also remove foreign bodies (such as coins or socks that your pet may have ingested) from animals' stomachs without doing a full-blown surgical procedure.

Since procedures can be performed without a surgical incision into the abdomen, recovery is much quicker. Most animals go home the same day that the endoscopic procedure is performed.

Fiber optic endoscope allows us to view your pet's internal organs on a TV monitor as well as remove foreign objects and biopsy abnormal   tissues.
